We organised "Image of Water in Art" exhibition of photography and applied decorative arts with the help of the House of technical and vocational education and the Club friends to attract public attention to ecological problems of today, importance of water in our life and careful attitude to water sources.
In September 2008 a designer, hat maker and the Club-friend Marina Sedova offered to present her book “Entertaining history of a bag” to children groups engaged in creative activities. The Club members helped to find a sponsor and organized a meeting with children to get acquainted with the author. Marina told children how the hats were made and invited them to the hat maker’s museum with the unique collections of hats, bags and fans. 100 books were presented.
In September 2008 the Club members visited 15 elderly people (neighbours, former colleagues and others) with fruit, flowers and gifts (usually a small amount of money) to celebrate the International day of the Elderly. Within the Joint project with the Belgian club “Les Fagnes” 3 Club members visited a non-state Home for the elderly with fruit and flowers. They presented gifts from the Belgian club – special cosmetics sets for the elderly- to 10 women at the age of 86-91.
In May 2008 supporting talented children the International Women’s Club Soroptimist International St.Petersburg became the sponsor of one-minute video films competition in order to increase environmental awareness of younger generation. Video films were shot by the children during the time of the International Festival of Children and Young people’s Cine and Video Creative Art “Petersburg screen” held in St.Petersburg. The members of the Club chose 3 best films.
In May 2008 the Club bought a microwave oven, electric kettles, utensils for the Hospice. Members of the Club gathered the old linen to be used instead of pumpers and brought perennial flowers to plant in the Hospice garden. To celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May the Club bought cakes, sweets and flowers for the Hospice patients – witnesses and participants of war.
Supporting talented children the International Women’s Club Soroptimist International St.Petersburg became the sponsor of one-minute video film competition in order to increase environmental awareness of younger generation.Video films were shot by the children within one day directly during the time of the International Festival of Children and Young people’s Cine and Video Creative Art “Petersburg screen” held in May 2008 in St.Petersburg, Russia.
The Club SI St.Petersburg has close friendly ties with the Association of international cooperation and take part in different cultural events to know more about culture of different countries. In April 2008 the Club members visited the exhibition “Sakura petals” organized within the framework of the festival “Japanese spring in St.Petersburg”. Friends of the Club Natalia Kvasova, Marina Sedova, Irina Mozhaeva took part in the exhibition.
In April 2008 the Club had a meeting with an associate-professor of the general and military hygiene department of the Military medical academy Narykov Vladimir. There were 30 guests invited to the meeting organized by the Club. The main theme was water – the important condition of human life, factors that influence the population health – quality of water purification in St.Petersburg, water cleaning up in home conditions.
Joint project with the Danish club Kastup-Taarnby. The musicians gave several concerts in Ishoej where Danish soroptimists were invited to (among the guests were Ulla Madsen from the club Kastrup-Taarnby and her friend Inge Claudius-Hansen who helped to organize this visit for our Club member Liudmila Nabok, the pianist of St.Petersburg Conservatoire. Some pieces of music at the concert were devoted to water (within the framework of the project "Soroptimists go for water") to emphasize the significance of water in our life through children’s musical creative activities.
