Soroptimist International (the Best for Women) is the worldwide organization of professional women, who work actively giving better quality of life and learning opportunities for women and girls, in local communities and at national and international levels.
We have been advocating for women’s and girls’ rights since 1921. Today, there are almost 90,000 Soroptimists around the world. We implement projects to give voice to women and girls, to educate and empower them, to realize their potential and enable them to attain higher qualifications through scholarships and cultural and educational programmes. We strive to eliminate domestic violence and to improve environmental sustainability.
There are 6 Soroptimist Clubs in Russia - Soroptimist International St. Petersburg Russia was chartered in 1991. Since that time it has implemented more than 26 important projects (e.g., The Charity Home, Hospice), organized 15 large cultural events (e.g., educational programmes for children, Orpharion chamber choir tours), established 6 Friendship Links with the clubs from 2 SI Federations. The members of the club took part in 5 SI Conventions, 6 Congresses, in Governors' meetings of SI/E and Northern Meetings. In 2010 the club received "The Best Practice Award" for its projects.

It was initiated by SI St.Petersburg, supported by the SI Swedish Union and realized in international partnership with 12 clubs-participants from 3 SI Federations.
